Today our wonderful cleaning lady, Iveta, came to clean the chata for the first time in over four months.
The place is (almost) clean again, and that has taken Jo’s depression away. That and the sun shining brightly for the first time in weeks.
Cleaning up after a bunch of big brawny, messy construction men is no easy job.
There are still one or two things that need looking after but we are home and loving it.
Jo is back to her morning walk up the hill and around down the old logging road, with Sisi streaking past in hopes of Jo throwing a stick or two (Jo throws them in hopes that Sisi will have a nice, quiet nap after).
Life is getting back to ‘normal.’
We’ve put our pictures back up on the walls
As you can see we’re still looking for the Minnesota Room sign for the guest room door (we haven’t ventured too far into the guest room yet. . . that’s still on the list).
JoEllen has put her 43-year-old reproduction of Vermeer’s Milk Maid where it belongs: in the kitchen (she can’t remember if she bought it at the Louvre or the Rijksmuseum back in 1968). It's been in every kitchen she's ever had.
And the kitchen is clean, with windows to enjoy the gorgeous day.
Scott has already pickled some green tomatoes and both the sporak and conventional ovens have been fired up. The induction stove top, with it new set of magnetic pots and pans, is just simply wonderful.
Scott is off once again to Bratislava to buy another book case, this one for all the cookbooks we own. (He believes it was a flaw in Jo’s kitchen design that she did not think to put book shelves in it.)
(She agrees with him.)
Not everything is back where it belongs, but we’re getting close.
Our comfortably cluttered living space. We were so happy to learn that the master wordworker, Mr Sniager, who built our new windows and doors, was the same 'majster' who built our eckbank and table!
Our newly located liquor cabinet; with baskets of DVDs below
Looking into our new kitchen you might notice a small plaque above the doorway:
This is typical folk art from Slovenia, a painted beehive ‘door.’ Scott bought this one when he traveled to Ljubljana, especially because of the crosses he must bear.
Jo displays her ‘scarf quilt,’ made by cousin Karen, draped over the banner in the bedroom.
The ground floor is still a work in progress. We will get rid of the buffet table and the old stove and oven, to make that crummy old kitchen into a utility room.
But the bathroom is finally clean!!
Your home has this vintage feel because of the material you've used for the walls. Well, it's either vintage or it's that cabin-y feel. The bathroom looks simple and neat, by the way.

Your house looks so cozy. I saw lots books in there. How I want to have a private library at my house. And I love your kitchen too.
